PIT and CIT collections were the main drivers of the 16.81% growth in 2024 in tax revenue from personal income tax, business income tax, and corporate income tax, which totalled Nu 16.87 billion. Revenue from BIT, however, declined. 184 corporations filed 368 CITs, 9,139 BIT filers filed 39,165, and 3,208 PIT filers filed 70,796. This difference between more revenue and fewer filers at this time may be explained by the fact that many individuals and corporations filed their taxes throughout the year, missing the tax deadline.
The official responded to reports of a tax hike by stating that the DRC does not have the power to raise taxes on its own and stressed that any changes to tax rates require approval from Parliament. The tax return process is still ongoing, and the final refund amount won’t be known until the end of June this year, according to Sonam Jamtsho, the director general of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. As it moves to a new digital tax system, the Bhutanese government is tackling problems like staffing shortages, erroneous rental income data, and a lack of qualified personnel. In order to boost the economy and encourage the growth of the private sector, they are also striving to overhaul the tax code.
