The Ministry of Education is implementing significant reforms, including the finalization of a National Teaching Standards Framework and potential Cambridge Curriculum shift, to improve education quality. The NTS reform aims to enhance flexibility in managing education human resources, adapting teaching profession to changing needs, and allowing contract teachers to transition into the NTS. The NTS framework is set to be finalized, addressing career progression and professional recognition concerns, while the Ministry is reviewing the national school curriculum to align with international standards. Cambridge experts are collaborating with Bhutan to reform the country’s education system, aiming to improve learning outcomes, equip students with global citizenship skills, and maintain Bhutan’s cultural identity.

The Ministry is attempting to lessen the academic load on pupils in addition to aligning the curriculum. Lyonpo emphasized initiatives to switch from rote, textbook-heavy learning methods to integrated and concept-based learning models. The Ministry intends to provide a curriculum that not only equips students for the global arena but also strengthens their sense of national identity by fusing contemporary teaching methods with Bhutan’s traditional educational principles.
