Pelkhil School will become the first school in Bhutan to fully follow the Cambridge International Curriculum next year. This comes after a series of meetings and conversations between the school, the Ministry of Education, and Cambridge specialists. The curriculum has already been piloted in classes ranging from pre-primary to Grade II, with intentions to expand to Grade III. The principal of Pelkhil School stated that the curriculum would not be applied across all school levels right away. The curriculum will be updated each year to ensure that students continue to learn while building on previous knowledge.

Rie K Dorji stated that the school sought student feedback before deciding to completely implement the curriculum and reaction. For Bal Krishna Bista, the Cambridge curriculum marks a change in teaching methodology. He encouraged pupils to investigate topics on their own, with teachers functioning as supplemental resources rather than the ultimate authority in the classroom. Deo Kumari Thapa stated that teaching the Cambridge curriculum was especially satisfying since it encouraged greater student participation and engagement. She said that the curriculum’s interconnected structure allows for a more progressive learning experience, with each level building on the previous one.
