India’s Ministry of Health (MoH) confirms no immediate concern over Covid-19 variants LF.7 and NB.1.8, stating surveillance is heightened but no significant changes in transmissibility or vaccine escape potential. MoH officials confirm increased LF.7 and NB.1.8 detections, no immediate alarm, public health systems vigilant, RCDC monitoring, flu or influenza samples, no Covid-19 signs. Health ministry is urging public to take basic precautionary measures, especially in high-risk settings, such as avoiding crowded spaces and using face masks optionally. The official stated that the RCDC is fully prepared to increase surveillance in case of a global surge in new variants.
India reported 1,009 active Covid-19 cases as of May 26, with LF.7 and NB.1.8 infections typically mild. WHO’s variant tracking portal sporadically identifies them, under surveillance. Public health professionals advise caution rather than complacency, even though the vaccines that are now on the market are still effective against these sub-lineages. The health ministry reaffirmed that, should the need arise, it is ready to implement quick response measures, such as booster shots.
