The MoH has issued an urgent public advisory following an outbreak of JE in Assam, India, resulting in fatalities. The MoESD has also expressed concern for Bhutanese students preparing to return to school. The disease can cause life-threatening complications. Health experts warn of a heightened risk of JE transmission during and after the rainy season, particularly in rural and agricultural regions. The MoH has identified six districts in Assam as JE hotspots, advising travelers to take precautions such as using mosquito nets, applying insect repellent, wearing long-sleeved clothing, and eliminating stagnant water. The ministry has alerted health centres and initiated vector monitoring in high-risk zones. Health officials have consulted with piggery farm owners to prevent the spread of the JE virus, which can be amplified by infected mosquitoes. The Ministry of Health is prepared to scale up control measures and advises citizens to avoid non-essential travel and be vigilant for symptoms like fever, headache, vomiting, seizures, neck stiffness, or confusion.
