Bhutan has started exporting handmade bamboo-based lifestyle products to countries like Germany, France, and the Netherlands under a new trade partnership led by the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

Rural youth in Trashiyangtse and Zhemgang are being trained to produce eco-friendly items including trays, lamps, and furniture. With support from India’s bamboo mission and EU fair-trade agencies, Bhutan is turning its sustainable craft into a foreign exchange earner.

This initiative can inspire bamboo-rich regions in Assam, Meghalaya, and Bangladesh to invest in rural eco-craft industries for both domestic and global markets.
