The biggest integrated power companies in India Tata Power Company Ltd has partnered with DGPC in a historic agreement to build at least 5,000 MW of renewable energy capacity in Bhutan. By helping Bhutan’s and India’s transition to renewable energy, this collaboration seeks to improve regional energy security. In order to accomplish this, Bhutan plans to expand its energy mix beyond conventional hydropower to incorporate geothermal and solar energy, as well as investigate creative project financing options and structures through strategic alliances. The DGPC Managing Director and Dr. Praveer Sinha, the Chief Executive and Managing Director of Tata Power, signed the Memorandum of Understanding yesterday in Thimphu.

The 1,200-kilometer Tala transmission line, which transports clean electricity from Bhutan to India, is another project that Tata Power has embarked on. In addition to expressing thanks for being a part of His Majesty’s transformative agenda, the chairman of Tata Sons stated that the Tata Group sees a number of chances to get involved in Bhutan’s power, hotel, and renewable energy sectors. According to Dr. Praveer Sinha, the collaboration will contribute to the development of a new energy period in the area.

Additionally, Khorlochhu Hydropower Limited and Bhutan’s Department of Energy inked a concession agreement for the 600 MW Khorlochhu project. DGPC and Tata Power Trading Company Limited also inked an MOU for the sale of electricity from the 32 MW Yungichhu Hydropower Plant.
