Bhutan has announced new initiatives to expand its eco-tourism sector, unveiling community-based trekking trails, homestays, and cultural experiences across remote villages. The Tourism Council of Bhutan said the move is aimed at boosting rural incomes while preserving the country’s rich environment.
Officials also highlighted that the projects will attract visitors from neighboring India, Nepal, and Bangladesh, who often look for short, affordable eco-friendly tours. Travel operators in Siliguri and Assam welcomed the decision, noting that the new packages could increase cross-border tourism. Bhutan, known for its “high-value, low-volume” policy, is now balancing sustainability with economic growth.
