Bhutan’s Ministry of Health highlights progress in maternal and child health, highlighting significant declines in maternal and under-five mortality over the past two decades. Bhutan’s Comprehensive Mother and Child Health Programme aims to address anemia and low antenatal care attendance among pregnant women, addressing medical and social barriers to maternal care. In order to address nutritional inadequacies, pregnant and lactating women are now receiving a variety of micronutrient supplements. While developmental screening for children aids in the early detection of deficits, breastfeeding assistance is provided to new mothers.

The program offers a comprehensive style of care by including recommendations for oral health and fitness for mothers. The 1000 Golden Days campaign, which was started earlier this year as part of the Accelerating Maternal and Child Health Program, is a crucial element. It supports the government’s approach to enhancing results through focused assistance by providing qualified women with conditional financial incentives to promote their full participation in necessary programs. International partners like the World Bank, UNICEF, and WHO are enhancing Bhutan’s health services, particularly in remote areas, with financial and technical assistance.
