Bhutan has introduced a national organic certification program, helping farmers receive formal accreditation for growing chemical-free crops. The program, under the Ministry of Agriculture, offers training and logistical support to help rural producers meet international organic standards.
With a focus on sustainability and health, the government hopes to promote Bhutanese produce in foreign markets. The drive includes organic cardamom, ginger, turmeric, and apples—staples also grown in neighboring Indian states like Sikkim and West Bengal.
This initiative is relevant to Indian organic traders and food importers, as Bhutan’s cleaner agricultural image may open up new markets and cross-border collaboration opportunities in the Himalayas.
