Bhutan is set to host its first Himalayan Climate Science Conference in July this year, gathering scientists, policymakers, and activists from Nepal, India, China, and other South Asian countries. The conference, to be held in Thimphu, aims to address the melting of glaciers, water security, and climate migration.
King Jigme Khesar has endorsed the event, calling it “a landmark moment for Himalayan solidarity.” Bhutan’s environment minister said, “We need shared solutions for a shared crisis.” The outcomes may influence policy across South Asia, where millions depend on glacial-fed rivers for drinking water and agriculture.
Indian and Nepali researchers will also present joint studies funded by cross-border grants, making the summit regionally relevant for publishing across countries.
