In order to ensure compliance with DRC guidelines, dealers are attempting to track down eligible customers for Green Tax refunds, identifying those who were overcharged between 2019 and 2024. According to a car dealer, there is a lot of misinformation regarding the refund procedure. According to the dealer, a lot of people think they will get their entire Green Tax refund, but that isn’t the case. Only the discrepancy between the amount they were charged and the correct tax will be paid to them. According to another dealer, efforts are being made to use the chassis numbers of eligible customers to track them down. Customers will be contacted directly after being identified.

Depending on the tax disparity, some people may receive as little as Nu 10 in refunds, while others may receive several thousand. The refund amounts are determined individually based on the severity of the overcharge rather than being split equally among all vehicles. Dealers are able to cross-check chassis numbers in their systems because customers who are currently overseas have taken the initiative to submit their vehicle details for verification. Before being cleared by the DRC, dealers must pay out all excess Green Tax refunds to customers. A revised public notice outlining the refund amounts for each car dealer was released by the DRC on January 17, 2025.
