Bhutan’s Ministry of Tourism has unveiled a new eco-tourism policy designed to promote low-impact travel in lesser-visited regions. The plan includes community-based trekking routes, homestays in highland villages, and plastic-free travel certifications for tour operators.
The aim is to distribute tourism revenue beyond Thimphu and Paro and protect the country’s rich biodiversity. Bhutan has also partnered with Indian and European travel platforms to promote cross-border eco-circuits.
Indian travellers, especially from North Bengal and Sikkim, are expected to benefit from simplified entry permits under the new framework, strengthening regional ties while promoting sustainable development.
