Bhutan has inaugurated its first National AI Research Centre in Thimphu, focusing on sustainable tech applications in agriculture, environment, and education. The center is a joint venture between the Bhutanese government and international partners, including Japan and Norway.

Officials say the AI centre will also offer training for local youth and could collaborate with South Asian institutions. Already, talks are underway with universities in Sikkim, Nepal, and Bangladesh to create exchange programs and research fellowships.

The initiative signals Bhutan’s commitment to digital transformation while ensuring regional cooperation.
