The groundbreaking ceremony of the Gelephu Choeten was graced by His Majesty the King. The Zhung Dratshang’s Dorji Lopen presided over the event. The focal point of the Gelephu Mindfulness City will be the choeten. The Jarong Khashor stupa serves as the model for this. Guru Padmasambhava is associated with the original Jarong Khashor stupa, which is thought to be the Boudhanath stupa in Kathmandu and has great spiritual importance. The building of such a stupa is considered an act of unmatched merit in Buddhist tradition, and the scriptures describe the monument as a meeting place for the bodhisattvas and buddhas of the ten directions.

His Majesty also presided over the installation of Sachu Bumter for two important projects in Gelephu, together with the consecration of the Choeten. It is meant to be one of the recognizable buildings in the Gelephu Mindfulness City environment, representing Bhutan’s architectural and cultural legacy. Gelephu School will serve children in Pre-Primary through Class VI and be a day school. It will folllow adhere to the Druk Gyalpo’s Institute-licensed Bhutan Baccalaureate curriculum. His Majesty gave local community members an audience while he was at Gelephu.
