KMC, a low-cost, high-impact intervention, is revolutionizing neonatal care in hospital wards by providing human touch to some of the country’s most vulnerable newborns. Bhutan has adopted Early Essential Newborn Care since 2013, saving lives and reshaping early infant care, with hundreds of health workers trained and facilities across the country.

One mother remarked, “When we first heard about KMC, it sounded so simple,” Physicians and nurses from Bhutan came to the Foundation to see how KMC was used in local hospitals. According to Dr. Dinesh Pradhan, the main reason Thimphu was doing better than the other two hospitals was because it had more doctors and nurses. Although Bhutan has not yet conducted a formal research, local medical practitioners are witnessing compelling anecdotal evidence.
