Bhutan’s agricultural exports grew last year, generating Nu 3.51 billion, with major commodities like cardamom, oranges, potatoes, and betel nuts among top export earners. Cardamom production declines due to climate change, pests, and diseases, while citrus mandarin exports show significant growth, with revenue increasing by 24.7%. Orange exports totaled 35,674.96 MT. Exports of potatoes also increased, bringing in Nu 539.4 million, more than Nu 227.8 million more. Bhutan exported 29,687.5 metric tons of potatoes in 2024. 35,371 registered potato growers cultivate the crop nationwide. One of Bhutan’s most valuable exports, cordyceps, saw a more than twofold increase in revenue, from Nu 46,84 million in 2023 to Nu 100 million in 2024, a 113.5% increase.

In 2024, ginger exports brought in Nu 52 million, down from Nu 52.8 million in 2023. Chhukha is the region that produces the most of the crop, which is grown in 16 dzongkhags. Matsutake mushroom exports increased by Nu 50.7m in 2024, while carrot and turnip exports increased by Nu 40.6m. Betel nut exports also saw a rise. Apple exports in Bhutan experienced a decline, with revenue dropping from Nu 51.7m in 2023 to Nu 30.7m, despite a rise in growers and production.
