Bhutan Day, a German initiative, held in Berlin, involving experts, students, and guests to discuss Bhutan’s agricultural sector and its sustainable future. Younten Phuntsho, Bhutan’s Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, participated electronically at the event. He discussed the national measures that are now in place to improve resilience in Bhutan’s agriculture sector and increase food security. According to DBHG board member Dr. Uwe Dräger, Bhutan is still seen by many Germans as a far-off and rather exotic place, which makes it difficult to explain the intricacies of its agriculture industry.
The program featured speakers discussing sustainable agriculture in Bhutan, agro-industrial linkages, transitioning to organic farming, and policies promoting biodiversity-friendly land use. Dr. Andreas von Heßberg gave a presentation on his studies on the effects of climate change on the dynamics of vegetation in the Himalayan region.
