Samtse town’s water crisis is nearing an end with the completion of a new borewell, expected to alleviate persistent water issues, especially during dry winter months. The Nu 4.07 million project complements the town’s existing infrastructure, addressing the town’s heavy dependence on gravity-fed water sources. Construction of a borewell in Samtse Throm, Thailand, began on March 19. The project, approved under the Small Development Project, was necessary due to the failure of existing infrastructure to meet demand.

The gravity line, previously supported by a pump house, was vulnerable to monsoons and washed away. The project is nearing completion and is expected to strengthen the town’s water systern. Samtse is predicted to experience significant growth in the coming years, becoming one of Bhutan’s industrial hubs. The completion of Dhamdhum Industrial Park and Norbugang Industrial Park will lead to a surge in demand for essential services, particularly housing and water, over the next two to three years. This is particularly concerning for residents like Sangay, who runs a small restaurant.
