Public-private partnership in Thimphu opens two new community waste drop-off centres, improving waste segregation and recycling infrastructure. 11 drop-off centers and storage facilities are now operational. The Bhutan Ecological Society, in collaboration with Thimphu Thromde and GIN, has established new waste management centres to reduce plastic pollution, generate green jobs, and support youth-led enterprises. The Kelki Drop-off Centre in Thimphu Thromde, Bhutan, employs 13 youths and recycles 16,198.13 kilograms of plastic waste, promoting Bhutan’s Waste Prevention and Management Act. The World Bank-funded initiative, implemented by SACEP and UNOPS, is a successful model of collaborative governance addressing urban waste challenges and promoting circular economy practices.
