The 23rd National Design and Art Competition in Bhutan showcases traditional craftsmanship and cultural heritage, featuring 88 entries across six categories, judged by seven experts. At the inaugural event, the winners were revealed, and the best entries in each category were given diplomas and cash awards. NDAC’s Royal Patron, Her Majesty Gyalyum Sangay Choden Wangchuck, also bestowed the esteemed title of “Master” upon the first-place winners. But the NDAC is more than just a contest. With its roots in Her Majesty’s long-standing dedication to conserving and advancing Bhutan’s cultural identity, it pays homage to artistic tradition and vision. It provides a chance for growth, validation, and exposure for craftsmen nationwide.
The number of entries climbed from 75 in 2023 to 88 in 2025, indicating a steady growth in participation in recent years. Ashi Eeuphelma Choden Wangchuck, Her Royal Highness, officially opened the show. In collaboration with DCDD’s Museum Division, the Royal Textile Academy of Bhutan is hosting the exhibition. The public can view the display until May 10.
