Bhutan has taken a major step toward environmental sustainability by enforcing a ban on single-use plastics in Thimphu, Paro, and Phuentsholing. The initiative covers plastic bags, straws, and wrappers, aiming to eliminate non-biodegradable waste by 2030.

The government is promoting traditional alternatives such as cloth and jute bags. Environmentalists across South Asia have welcomed Bhutan’s move, saying it can influence neighboring countries like India, Nepal, and Bangladesh to adopt stricter plastic policies.
