Madhab Adhikari, a 51-year-old resident of Samtenthang, is looking for a temporary residence for his family in Sarpang since 29 landowners are required to give up their property for the first phase of the Gelephu International Airport. In order to house his cattle, Adhikari is also looking for reasonably priced houses in Dekiling and Shompangkha Gewogs. An interim relocation plan is being offered to residents in Indonesia’s GMC area, allowing them to rent homes in areas such as Gelephu and Sarpang. Each family will get Nu 9,000 for rent and Nu 9,500 for rations each month. Families who rent less than the allotted amount, however, will not be eligible for additional assistance and will be responsible for any further expenses.

16 households that got compensation and land replacement during previous airport development efforts are also included in the program. Plans are in place to compensate for lost revenue and provide assistance to families, farmers, and children. For 16 residents, financial aid is being developed. By 2029, a temporary relocation is anticipated. To protect long-term interests, landowners in the GMC are implementing land tokenization, which transfers ownership while keeping a digital token for potential future appreciation. Like traditional property ownership, tokens can be used by landowners for inheritance, investment, or building. Families are in favor of the tokenization concept because they know that the full advantages will be experienced eventually.
