The Royal Government of Bhutan has launched the ‘Green Himalaya’ initiative, aiming to plant over 5 million trees by 2027. The project focuses on high-altitude regions affected by deforestation and climate change.

Bhutan, already known for its commitment to carbon negativity, hopes to strengthen biodiversity and prevent soil erosion across Himalayan valleys. The initiative could have trans-border benefits, including improved ecosystem resilience in adjacent regions of India and Nepal.

This sustainable step by Bhutan may serve as a model for reforestation efforts across South Asia and beyond.
