Amid the escalating conflict over the Strait of Hormuz, Iran has targeted Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain in retaliation for US attacks. The US has threatened to launch an even more aggressive strike against Iran. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claims to have carried out a ballistic missile attack on the Prince Hassan Airbase and a US Marine base in Jordan as a retaliatory measure.
According to reports from Al Jazeera, Arab News, Gulf News, and CBS News, Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei—in his first message following the resumption of hostilities between Washington and Tehran—stated that this time, Iran’s military would inflict pain upon the US that it would never forget.
Kuwait has stated that its air defense systems are actively responding to drone attacks. Bahrain reported that its air defense systems successfully intercepted and destroyed drones originating from Iran. US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that its forces conducted multiple strikes on Iranian targets on September 1st; this action was taken in response to attempts to attack commercial vessels and US troops.
Meanwhile, Iranian state media has reported explosions in southern regions. According to these reports, powerful blasts occurred in Asaluyeh, Jiroft, Bandar Abbas, Qeshm Island, Konarak, Chabahar, Jask, Sirik, and Lavan. The Iranian Red Crescent reported via X (formerly Twitter) that at least four people, including a child, were killed and over 50 civilians injured when a wedding venue in the city of Kuhestak, Sirik County, was struck. The Iranian government stated that the wedding venue was leveled following the US attack. Sirik County is located along the coast of the Strait of Hormuz. On Tuesday, Iranian media reported explosions in several cities along the Strait of Hormuz and to its east, as well as at an airport in the southern Kerman province. Iran has been at war with the US since February 28—the date when the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, Ali Khamenei, and senior military officials were killed in a joint US-Israeli military strike. Following that, Iran attacked US-allied nations in the Middle East. After a few days of silence, the US launched a massive attack on Iran on Sunday. President Donald Trump has threatened a severe response to any retaliatory strike.
Defying Trump’s threat, Iran targeted US troops in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates. IRGC spokesperson Hossein Mohebi warned on X that Washington would face severe punishment. Iran’s Tasnim News Agency later stated that the Iranian military had launched operations against US bases. Significantly, Iran has not opened the Strait of Hormuz, and the US blockade of Iranian ports remains in effect.
Reports have emerged of two attacks on commercial tankers near the Strait of Hormuz within the last 48 hours. Following one incident, a ship came to a halt after dropping anchor approximately one nautical mile northwest of Jazirat Umm al-Ghanam. The second incident involved the UKMTO 124-26 (a tanker); this vessel was struck by three unidentified projectiles while exiting the strait, approximately 17 nautical miles east of Khasab, Oman. These attacks on tankers have occurred as the US-Iran conflict potentially enters a more dangerous maritime phase. In response to Iranian threats, the US military has launched fresh strikes against Iranian radar and air defense systems, as well as other military infrastructure. The Houthi-controlled Foreign Ministry in Sana’a has issued a statement expressing solidarity with Tehran regarding the US attacks on Iran. In a statement carried by the Houthi-run Saba news agency, the ministry asserted that US attacks would not weaken Iran’s resolve and that Tehran’s response constitutes a legitimate right under international law. The ministry accused the US of pushing the region toward tension, stating that Washington and its backers bear responsibility for the consequences and will have to pay the price.
Jordan reported that several parts of the country were targeted by Iranian missiles. The Jordanian military stated on Wednesday morning that it had faced a “missile attack originating from Iranian territory.” The Arab nation’s military reported detecting 13 ballistic missiles; 10 were intercepted, while three landed in remote areas. Although Iranian state media claimed that US troops were killed in the attack on Jordan, a US official stated that this was not true.
