Trongsa will host the Black Mountain Festival on October 3 and 4, 2026, bringing together communities and visitors for a celebration of culture, heritage, creativity and local participation.
This year’s festival is themed ‘Trongsa Through Time: Celebrating Heritage, Creativity, and Community.’ The main programme will be held at Yid-Zhin Throm following a five-day Regional Highway Build-Up from September 28 to October 2.The build-up will travel through Trongsa’s five gewogs—Drakteng, Korphu, Langthel, Tangsibje and Nubi—before culminating in the main festival.The event will showcase local traditions, food, arts and crafts, Monpa culture and community activities. It will also highlight Trongsa’s historical significance as an important centre of Bhutanese political and royal history.
Trongsa Dzong and the Royal Heritage Museum at Ta Dzong are among the district’s key heritage attractions associated with Bhutan’s royal history.The festival is expected to provide local communities, artisans, performers and producers with an opportunity to present their work while encouraging visitors to explore central Bhutan beyond the country’s more frequently visited western destinations.The Black Mountain Festival will conclude with the two-day main programme at Yid-Zhin Throm on October 3 and 4.
