Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC) has signed a contract with Entura to prepare detailed feasibility reports for the 590 MW Chamkharchhu II and 364 MW Chamkharchhu IV hydropower projects in Bhutan.
The agreement, signed on October 15, 2026, covers two projects with a combined capacity of 954 MW. These reports are to be completed within 18–24 months. The design and planning of the projects will be aligned with Bhutan’s hydropower guidelines and international best practices.
Funding for these studies is being provided by the World Bank under Subcomponent 3.3 of the ‘Accelerating Transport and Trade Connectivity in Eastern South Asia – Phase 2 (Bhutan Project)’.
DGPC stated that strategic partners for both projects have already been identified. Alongside the preparation of the feasibility reports, work on project structuring will also commence to expedite their implementation.
The objective of these projects is to strengthen grid reliability, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and contribute toward achieving Bhutan’s target of 25,000 MW of installed power generation capacity by 2040.
