Taylor Swift VMAs 2026 broke records at the MTV Video Music Awards, as she is known to do. She received the inaugural Artist Director Honours on Sunday night, becoming the most-awarded artist in VMA history. Previously, she was tied with Beyoncé for the title, with 30 VMAs each.

The new award recognizes artists whose work behind the camera expands the possibilities of music video. She also took home the night’s top prize, Video of the Year, for The Fate of Ophelia. Swift dedicated the award to the ultimate showgirl, the late Dolly Parton.

She debuted the video for Patient Zero during the ceremony, directed by Swift. The clip stars Colin Farrell and Dakota Johnson as mirror images. Patient Zero is her first single since marrying Travis Kelce in July. The two-hour show aired live on CBS from the Peacock Theatre.

Madonna opened the show and later won Best Collaboration. Nirvana received the 2026 Video Vanguard Award.
