The 19th Hole has recently opened in Bhutan, marking the country’s first indoor golf simulator bar designed as a casual social hub rather than merely a sports facility. The venue integrates advanced golf simulator technology with food, beverages, and karaoke, fostering a welcoming atmosphere for groups to unwind. It caters to golf enthusiasts and newcomers alike, offering a unique opportunity to learn and enjoy the sport in a relaxed setting. The founders, Sonam Gagyel Lekphell and Sonam Wangyal Lekphell, shared insights about their vision and mission, highlighting their goal to make golf accessible to all.

The concept originated from a passion for golf and a desire to provide an engaging recreational option in Bhutan. They recognized that access to actual golf courses is sometimes limited, particularly for beginners and younger individuals. The plan was to create a fun environment where anyone could learn and play golf, socialize, and develop camaraderie through games and shared experiences.

Setting up The 19th Hole came with various challenges, notably being the first golf simulator facility in Bhutan. The founders invested significant time in thorough research, sourcing specialized equipment, and designing the venue to ensure it was both enjoyable and comfortable. Their meticulous preparation involved several months of planning and testing, ultimately leading to a fulfilling realization of their vision.

A key aspect of The 19th Hole is its commitment to engaging youth and contributing positively to society. They have initiated golf coaching sessions for children, aiming to instill valuable traits such as discipline and sportsmanship while fostering a love for the sport. The facility also serves as a safe and welcoming space for social interaction.

Looking ahead, the founders envision The 19th Hole becoming a central recreational hub where individuals of all ages can gather, play golf, and connect. They hope to cultivate greater interest in golf among young Bhutanese, potentially paving the way for future athletes in the sport.

The name “The 19th Hole” derives from golfing lingo, referring to the social environment that follows a round of golf, typically a comfortable spot for relaxation and camaraderie. This captures the spirit of the venue, which emphasizes not just the game but the social connections and enjoyable atmosphere it creates.

Playing at The 19th Hole is flexible; simulators can be booked by the hour for groups, with pricing designed to be affordable and inclusive. Each simulator comfortably accommodates up to four players, while also allowing for rotations and spectators, enhancing the group’s interactive experience.

One of the unexpected lessons for the founders has been the remarkable openness of the community toward new experiences. They have observed a genuine curiosity among individuals, especially the youth, eager to engage with golf in a fun and casual setting, reaffirming the belief that new opportunities often inspire participation.

The 19th Hole operates from Tuesday to Sunday, 11 am to 11:30 pm, located on the fourth floor of the Hejo Big Mart building in Thimphu, Bhutan.
