The Bhutan Football Federation (BFF) has officially entered a transformative chapter in its sporting history. On 14 April 2026, during a distinguished ceremony at the Gold Fish Resort in Gelephu, the BFF signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the renowned Danish sportswear brand Hummel. This three-year agreement is poised to elevate Bhutanese football by blending international expertise with the nation’s unique cultural identity.
The event was attended by high-ranking dignitaries, including His Eminence Laytshog Lopen Sangay Dorji and His Excellency Rasmus Abildgaard Kristensen. The partnership is built upon a foundation of shared philosophy rather than mere commercial interest. BFF President Dasho Ugen Tshechup emphasized that the collaboration is rooted in the “ideology of using sport to bring the globe together,” noting that Hummel’s commitment to positive change perfectly mirrors Bhutan’s national values.
Mr. Christian Stadil, representing Hummel and serving as the Honorary Consul of Bhutan in Denmark, described the venture as a “purpose-driven journey.” He praised the resilience of Bhutanese football, stating that the brand feels deeply connected to a philosophy where progress is measured by steady commitment rather than rapid, fleeting success. For Hummel, this partnership is an “adventure” aimed at supporting community and identity through the universal language of sport.
A primary highlight of the ceremony was the unveiling of the new national team jersey. Presented by football icons Chencho Gyeltshen and Pema Zangpo alongside academy talent Tshendru Tshering Pelzom, the bespoke kits were formally blessed by His Eminence Laytshog Lopen Sangay Dorji. These jerseys represent a new era of pride for the “Dragon Boys” and the “Dragon Girls,” symbolizing Bhutan’s growing presence in the global football community.
Since joining FIFA in 2000, Bhutan has made significant strides, most notably its historic 2015 World Cup qualifying win against Sri Lanka. This new agreement ensures that Bhutanese players will be equipped with FIFA-approved gear while benefiting from Hummel’s international marketing reach. As the MoU was signed by Mr. Stadil and BFF General Secretary Ugyen Wangchhuk, the message was clear: Bhutanese football is no longer just a story of perseverance but a rising force ready for the global stage.
