India has approved over Nu 3 billion for 12 new Project-Tied Assistance (PTA) initiatives in Bhutan under the country’s 13th Five-Year Plan, bringing the total approved PTA projects to 82. Sanctioned during the Fifth Bhutan-India Development Cooperation Talks in Thimphu, the funding spans critical sectors, including agriculture, health, urban development, disaster management, and local governance. The largest individual share of Nu 500 million is earmarked for a chain-link fencing programme to protect agricultural land from wild animals and boost food security. Urban development across seven districts receives Nu 480 million, while the health sector gains significant momentum with over Nu 411 million for Gelephu Hospital’s renovation, Nu 320 million for traditional medicine facilities, and Nu 300 million to establish the Selwa Centre—Bhutan’s first dedicated facility for persons with disabilities. To strengthen disaster preparedness, Nu 308 million will fund the National Emergency Operations Centre, alongside Nu 334 million allocated for a new Thimphu District Court. Additional funding targets quality infrastructure with Nu 140 million for a National Metrology Laboratory and Nu 54 million to upgrade the Product Testing Laboratory. To enhance local governance, Nu 217 million will procure utility vehicles across all 205 gewogs, while Nu 231 million supports the Phuentshogling Sports Association Ground redevelopment and Nu 25 million funds a regional transport office in Samdrup Jongkhar.
