Ten more Indian hospitals are expected to join Bhutan’s Medical Referral System, giving Bhutanese patients greater access to specialised healthcare in India. The development was discussed during a Medical Value Travel business interaction in Thimphu, which brought together Bhutanese and Indian healthcare stakeholders to explore stronger cooperation in the medical sector. The visiting hospitals presented their specialised services, centres of excellence, international patient facilities, and treatment packages. Healthcare providers also expressed interest in supporting Bhutan through surgical camps, specialist outreach clinics, knowledge sharing, and capacity-building programmes. Representatives from Fortis Hospital and Yashoda Medicity said they were willing to send specialist doctors to Bhutan and provide technical support where needed. The expansion of the referral network is expected to give patients more treatment options while strengthening collaboration and knowledge exchange between the two countries’ healthcare systems.
