International visitors travelling to Bhutan’s Gelephu Mindfulness City can temporarily use the Hatisar border crossing in Assam, following its designation as an authorised Indian immigration post for Project 108.
The facility became operational on October 24 and will remain authorised until November 6, 2026, according to India’s Ministry of Home Affairs. The arrangement allows eligible Bhutanese and third-country nationals to complete Indian immigration formalities at Hatisar, opposite Gelephu in southern Bhutan. The move is expected to make road travel easier for international visitors arriving at Guwahati airport, eliminating the need for lengthy detours to other immigration checkpoints.
The temporary facility has separate arrival and departure areas, seating and toilets, with additional personnel deployed to manage immigration and security. Eligible travellers can use Indian e-Visas where applicable, but must also meet Bhutan’s separate visa and entry-permit requirements. The arrangement has been introduced to support Project 108, an international gathering scheduled for November 1 in Gelephu Mindfulness City. The event will mark the completion of 108 Jangchub Chortens along the Mau Chhu river corridor. More than 120,000 visitors have reportedly registered for the gathering.
Travellers have been advised to confirm the latest immigration requirements before departure, as the temporary authorisation expires on November 6. Although India has previously announced plans for a permanent immigration post at Hatisar, no opening date has been confirmed.
