Authorities reported a total revenue generation of Rs 858,000 after taking decisive action against 1,720 drivers for various infractions across the city.
The intensified surveillance aimed to curb high-risk behaviors that frequently lead to road accidents. Among those penalized, 136 individuals were booked for driving under the influence of alcohol. This remains a primary focus for law enforcement as they attempt to reduce the incidence of impaired driving during nighttime and weekend hours.
The crackdown also highlighted a growing trend of violations within the expanding transportation sector. Police took action against 124 drivers associated with ride-sharing services for violating specific operational codes. Additionally, 129 drivers were penalized for disregarding traffic signals, while 175 individuals were fined for exceeding speed limits, showcasing a widespread disregard for fundamental road safety protocols.
Beyond these major offenses, the police addressed a variety of “nuisance” violations that contribute to urban congestion and noise pollution. These included breaches of lane discipline, the unauthorized blowing of horns in restricted quiet zones, and parking on pavements intended for pedestrians. Furthermore, several drivers were booked for picking up or dropping off passengers at unauthorized locations, a practice that frequently leads to traffic bottlenecks in high-density areas.
Traffic authorities have emphasized that these operations are not merely about revenue collection, but are essential for maintaining public order and ensuring the safety of both motorists and pedestrians. With over 1,700 drivers booked in just one day, officials hope the financial penalties serve as a deterrent, encouraging stricter adherence to traffic laws and a more responsible driving culture moving forward.
