Bhutan successfully concluded the inaugural Bhutan International Travel Mart (BITM) 2026 in Thimphu, marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to strengthen its tourism sector and expand global partnerships. Held from June 11 to 13, the event was organised by the Department of Tourism under the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Employment in collaboration with the Association of Bhutanese Tour Operators (ABTO).
The three-day travel mart attracted more than 200 international tourism buyers from around 15 countries, including India, Nepal, Thailand, Singapore, China, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, Germany, Canada, and Spain. The strong international participation reflected growing global interest in Bhutan as a high-value and sustainable travel destination.
BITM 2026 provided a platform for business-to-business engagement, allowing Bhutanese tourism operators to connect with international travel buyers. Exhibitors showcased Bhutan’s diverse tourism offerings, including cultural attractions, luxury hospitality services, adventure tourism, and wellness experiences. The Gelephu Mindfulness City initiative was also presented, highlighting its vision of combining wellbeing, culture, spirituality, and investment opportunities.
A key highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Association of Bhutanese Tour Operators and the Association of Buddhist Tour Operators, aimed at enhancing tourism cooperation and cultural exchange.
During the closing ceremony, officials announced that the second edition of the Bhutan International Travel Mart will be held in Bhutan from July 22 to 24, 2027, reinforcing the country’s commitment to promoting tourism and strengthening international industry engagement.
