Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay has congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister, describing him as a trusted friend, elder brother, and mentor. In an article published in a national daily, Tobgay reflected on his long association with Prime Minister Modi and praised his remarkable contribution to India’s progress and development.

Recalling his first meeting with Prime Minister Modi during the latter’s swearing-in ceremony on May 26, 2014, Tobgay highlighted the significance of India choosing Bhutan as the destination for Prime Minister Modi’s first overseas visit. He said the gesture reflected the special and enduring relationship between the two neighbouring countries.

The Bhutanese Prime Minister commended Modi’s humility, dedication, and tireless work ethic, noting that his leadership has transformed India through sustained economic growth, technological innovation, infrastructure expansion, and an enhanced global presence. He also praised Prime Minister Modi’s strong advocacy for developing countries and the Global South on international platforms.

Emphasising the close partnership between India and Bhutan, Tobgay said bilateral relations have grown stronger under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership. He particularly acknowledged India’s support for Bhutan’s ambitious Gelephu Mindfulness City project, describing it as a reflection of the deep trust and cooperation shared by the two nations.

Extending congratulations on behalf of the King, the Government, and the people of Bhutan, Prime Minister Tobgay wished Prime Minister Modi continued success in serving the people of India and further strengthening the longstanding friendship between India and Bhutan.
