The first Bhutan International Travel Mart (BITM) will take place in Thimphu, the Kingdom of Bhutan, from June 11–13, 2026. This major business-to-business (B2B) event, which enables foreign travelers to communicate directly with local stakeholders, represents a strategic change in Bhutan’s tourist industry. In contrast to conventional trade exhibitions, BITM aims to exemplify regenerative tourism, which is consistent with Bhutan’s Gross National Happiness governance concept. BITM 2026, which is jointly organized by the Department of Tourism and the Association of Bhutanese Tour Operators, enables local operators and guides to present genuine experiences without having to pay the expensive fees associated with foreign events.
The launch of the Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC), a project intended as a sustainable urban integration for mindfulness living that combines contemporary infrastructure with Bhutanese cultural values, will be a highlight. It is expected that GMC would be a major draw for tourists looking for ecological and spiritual renewal.
Bhutan’s tourism policy of “High value, Low volume” is still in place, according to officials, and BITM 2026 will concentrate on increasing this value by carefully choosing foreign partners. As the occasion draws near, Bhutan hopes to establish a global standard for tourism that supports environmental preservation and cultural heritage while presenting a successful model for regenerative tourism globally. BITM 2026 aims to establish tourism as a vehicle for social good through B2B connections, conservation conversations, and cultural exhibitions.
