Thukten Nyendra, 24, from Chhukha, has emerged as the winner of Bhutan’s inaugural Rhythm of Bhutan singing competition and the country’s representative at the first-ever Eurovision Song Contest Asia. Yet his musical journey began much earlier, when, at just four years old, he would sing and play the guitar at home. His mother, Nidup Tshomo, remembers those early moments fondly, never imagining that his childhood hobby would grow into a serious passion. Years later, while studying at Royal Thimphu College, Thukten began considering music as more than an interest. Although his decision to pursue music came with doubts and concerns about limited opportunities and career stability, he chose to follow his passion. His journey reflects the persistence and courage required to pursue a creative dream despite uncertainty. From a young boy strumming a guitar to earning the opportunity to represent Bhutan on an international stage, Thukten’s story is one of self-belief, perseverance and the power of staying true to one’s passion.
