The Gelephu Mindfulness City Authority (GMCA) has signed an agreement with Singapore’s KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) to establish Bhutan’s first in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) centre in Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC). The partnership is expected to strengthen specialised healthcare services and provide advanced fertility treatment for patients from Bhutan and across the region.
The agreement was signed virtually by GMC Governor Dasho Dr. Lotay Tshering and KKH Chief Executive Officer Associate Professor Chan Yoke Hwee. Under the partnership, KKH will serve as the technical advisor, offering expertise in clinical training, facility design, laboratory development, and operational planning. The hospital will provide its consultancy services free of charge on a non-exclusive basis.
As one of Asia’s largest women’s and children’s hospitals, KKH operates Singapore’s largest IVF Centre. Dasho Dr. Lotay Tshering said the collaboration reflects His Majesty’s vision for advancing next-generation longevity and regenerative medicine in Bhutan, adding that the partnership will help GMC deliver fertility services that meet international standards.
GMCA will oversee candidate selection, scholarships, procurement, and construction of the IVF centre. The initiative builds on the Singapore–Bhutan Article Six Implementation Agreement signed in February 2025, which established a framework for healthcare cooperation between the two countries. The collaboration marks another milestone in GMC’s vision of becoming a regional hub for healthcare, wellbeing, and innovation.
