Officials stated that the death toll from the devastating flash floods in Nepal rose to 1,357 on Tuesday as more bodies were recovered from affected areas. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) reported on Tuesday that rescue teams are searching for 5,326 people, while 13,583 individuals have been rescued so far. The death toll reached 1,357 following the recovery of additional bodies from various affected regions. Joint security force teams recovered 363 bodies from Chitwan district, 223 from Nawalparasi East, 222 from Nawalparasi West, and 197 from Nuwakot.
Similarly, 169 bodies were recovered from Rasuwa, 75 from Gorkha, 70 from Dhading, and 38 from Tanahu. According to the NDRRMA, 102 bodies have been handed over to family members so far after completing identification and necessary legal formalities. Floods triggered by an avalanche near the Nepal-Tibet border caused a surge in the flow of the Bhote Koshi River, sweeping away houses, vehicles, roads, and bridges, and damaging hydroelectric projects in northern and central Nepal. Chinese media reports indicate that at least 43 people died on the Chinese side of the border, while over 500 people are missing in Tibet. According to the NDRRMA, approximately 3,500 people were staying in government-run holding centers in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading as of Monday.
